Keep in mind that different types of foam mattresses have different cleaning processes. But don’t worry, we’ve covered them all in our foam mattress cleaning guide. These are also instructions for the mattress pad, so you will need to remove the mattress cover. If this is not possible, sorry, but you only need to clean the cover.

Memory foam is a petroleum-based material that slowly compresses and contours around the body under pressure. Some popular memory foam mattress brands you may be familiar with include Tempur-Pedic and Nectar. Polyurethane foam (PU) is the base foam material used in many box bed mattresses, such as Casper or Tuft & Needle, which have a neutral foam feel. It usually has a soft, cloud-like feel, which is much more responsive than memory foam. Memory foam mattresses are cleaned as follows:

It is usually perforated, which means it has small holes in it, which allows for good air circulation. It is also known to be a very durable material, so if you take care of it properly, a latex mattress will last a lifetime. Some of our favorite latex bedding brands include Avocado and Nest Bedding. Here’s how to clean it:

To clean your bed with baking soda, first remove the bedclothes and clean the dirt from the mattress. After cleaning the mattress, sprinkle 1-3 cups of baking soda on it. If there is a strong smelly area, concentrate more baking soda there. Leave your mattress in front of a window for 24 hours to allow direct sunlight to help the baking soda work. After 24 hours, remove the baking soda. Then turn the mattress over and repeat the process on the other side. It is best to use baking soda 1-2 times a year to keep the mattress fresh.
