How To Change Your Aol Mail Password
This week I received emails from two senior family members who contacted me with the dreaded subject line “Your mailbox will be closed in 3 days to log in for reactivation.”
Fearing that the email account they had used for nearly 25 years would be closed, they forwarded the email to me and asked for advice.
The email states that you must log in and verify your account within 72 hours or AOL will deactivate your account.
“We have noticed that you have not updated your account information recently. We plan to close this account as soon as possible, as your security is our highest priority. If we do not take immediate action, it will take 3 days. If you don’t check, it will be closed within 72 hours,” the AOL phishing email warns.

The email contains a link to a misconfigured AOL phishing landing page that asks visitors to log in to AOL.
When AOL credentials are submitted to the form, the stolen credentials are sent to the attacker and the user is redirected to the normal AOL login page.
Emphasis was placed on educating families about phishing scams and what to watch out for, so they don’t fall for them.
Unfortunately, many people may not have the same training and are likely to give away their AOL login information.
Why Am I Getting (or Sending) Emails That Contain Only A Link Or Spam From My Contacts?
If you fall prey to this phishing scam and have entered your login information incorrectly, you should immediately log in to AOL and change your password.
If the site doesn’t accept your password, it’s likely that an attacker already has control of your account. In this case, you will need to contact AOL Support.
When changing your password, be sure to use a different password for each site. This way, if a data exfiltration occurs on one site, the credentials on the other site will not be affected.
